Make a Name for Yourself

Two things arrive together in this update. The first is Faltulah, a level 95 greater demon who turns up in a different town every three quarters of an hour with a pack of skeleton minions in tow. The second is player titles: a name beside your own, shown to everyone who sees you and in global chat, earned from bosses, skills, quests, kill counts and the scrolls Faltulah carries. There are over a hundred to find.

Faltulah

Faltulah and his minions in town

Faltulah appears on the 45-minute marks - 00:00, 00:45, 01:30 and so on through the day, server time - and a purple [Monster] line tells everyone where he has shown up. He stays for five minutes and then he and his minions vanish, so if you want him, move. He isn't aggressive, but he hits like a level 95 and brings five level 32 skeleton minions with him.

He can appear in any of thirteen towns: Falador, Varrock, Lumbridge, Draynor, Rimmington, Seers Village, Ardougne, Edgeville, Al Kharid, Taverly, Catherby, Yanille and Karamja.

Every kill drops something. The real prize is the dusty title scroll, 1 in 32 from Faltulah himself and 1 in 128 from each minion.

Wipe the dust off a scroll and it becomes the scroll of one specific title picked at random. The dusty and specific scrolls are tradeable.

Titles

The titles panel

Type ::titles to open up a new panel. The Overview shows your name as others see it, how many titles of each kind you hold, and the three you're closest to earning. The General, Combat and Skill tabs list every title with how it's earned; titles you don't have yet are faded. Click an unlocked title to wear it, click it again or pick None to go back to a titleless name. Some titles go before your name and some after - the panel marks which with prefix or suffix.

Three title unlocks are announced to the whole world: Maxed, the Legendary boss cape's Final boss, and Questmaster.

Losing a title: it's possible to lose a title if a new quest comes out, or a new skill, or a new boss where gameplay mechanics shift over time.

General titles

General titles

This is the odds-and-ends tab, and honestly the fun one. Some of these you get for just turning up. Others you'll have to go questing for, or drink your way round Asgarnia for, or pry out of Faltulah's cold dead claws. There's one in here for coming back after a break, and one for the kind of person who owns every title going. You know who you are.

Combat titles

Combat titles

Everything you've ever killed finally counting for something in-game. Big bosses, big kill counts, the capes you've bled for and the pets you got lucky on.

Skill titles

Skill titles

Master a skill and you get to say so next to your name. Every 99 has one, and the total level ladder runs all the way up to Maxed - the one that gets announced to the whole server, because you earned it.

Ironman titles

Ironmen get their own tab because they get their own kind of bragging rights. Each account type has a set of titles that's yours from day one and stays yours as long as you stay iron. If you change your account mode you'll receive new titles, and if you decide to go back to being a normal account you'll lose all related ironman titles.

Already earned it?

Everything is checked when you log in, so if you're past a threshold today, the title is waiting for you. Drop rates, kill thresholds and title names may be tuned over the coming weeks.

Smaller changes

Slayer: pack leader wolves. The task now asks for 5 to 10 kills instead of 10 to 39. There aren't many of them and they're slow to find, so the old count was out of step with every other task.

Settings tab reorganised. The options are now grouped under headings - Display, Sound, Gameplay, Skills and XP, Ground items, and Chat and social - so you can find a toggle without reading the whole list. Titles are picked in ::titles, so the old Title row has gone from Settings.
